Volunteers decorated Sonning Common village hall ready for Christmas. Chrissie Phillips-Tilbury, Jill Vallis, Rika Adams and Valerie Borsberry spent an hour putting up scores of festive items. The centrepiece is a Santa’s sleigh with a bag full of toys and presents with a blue night sky backdrop, which came from the Christian Community Action shop in Wood Lane.
Mrs Phillips-Tilbury, of Woodlands Road, said: “Whenever we need something they find it for us.” The volunteers made stockings to hang up and also put up garlands.
Mrs Vallis said: “We started making Christmas stockings last year so we thought we would carry that on but make it better.”
On Christmas Day about 50 people who live alone or can’t face cooking will attend a lunch at the hall in Wood Lane.
Mrs Phillips-Tilbury said: “This cost us almost nothing and now the hall will look nice for the lunch.” A Christmas tree was erected outside the hall by Rob Smith, of Reades Lane, and Mark Weston, from Peppard.
Mr Smith also built a base with fairy lights built into it. He said: “People go past and say what a great tree it is.”
