A CHRISTMAS concert in Sonning Common raised £430 for charity.
Nottakwire performed at the village hall in Wood Lane on Saturday in aid of Embrace the Middle East, a Christian charity that helps people in poverty, and the village youth club. The 70-strong singing group sang carols and songs by John Rutter including Star Carol and Colours of Christmas.
They were directed by Margaret Moola and Elaine Williams, who set up the group in 2010. Soloist Susan Rusman sang Mary’s Boy Child.
The capacity audience of 60¬†people joined in some of the carols including Once in Royal David’s City, O Little Town of Bethlehem, Joy to the World, Away in a Manger, Hark! the Herald Angels Sing and O Come All Ye Faithful.
Ms Moola, of Sedgefield Close, said: “We have a smaller group, called The Notts, who sang some songs separately. It went very well and was lovely. We didn’t charge for entry and raised all the money from refreshments.”
She thanked the volunteers and stewards for ensuring the event ran smoothly, adding: “All in all it was a very enjoyable occasion.”
